Perumthod-Valiyathodu eco-restoration Project

2018 batch students of College of Climate Change and Environmental Science, Kerala Agricultural University were involved in the Perumthod-Valiyathodu eco-restoration Project. It was a major project initiated by the Kites foundation, a non-profit NGO, in collaboration with administration of  Kaipamangalam constituency with an extended vision of re-establishing the natural ecosystem of Perumthod as well as the socioeconomic relationship of Perumthod with it's local people. Perumthod is a large stream which flows through five panchayats of kaipamangalam constituency. Originating from Thonikulam at Perinjanam the perumthod flows through four other panchayats namely Mathilakam, Sreenarayanapuram, Edavilangu and Eriyad for almost 17 kilometres.
The initial stage of the project was a scientific study comprising of  watershed mapping, drone mapping and household survey.

The vision of the project, according to ET Taison master MLA of Kaipamangalam constituency, was to revive the Perumthod, which was once upon a time the lifeline of the region, and make it beneficial for the local people all over again.

Kites foundation Director & Board member Aboohashim P S, Environment Executive Committee Director Anagha K H, Kites foundation Environment Committee members Chinchu Jayakumar and Varghese K P  who are also 2018 batch students of CCCES led the scientific study.
